ENGINE VALVE TIMING. EX. JUN 14 1916 RECEIVED We find on test that with the most powerful engines the valve timing is, if anything, a little later than the actual standard timing as marked on the annulus wheel. We have certainly proved that in cases of engines in which the valve timing is slightly in advance of the standard marking that the power has been definitely improved by retarding the valve timing slightly. I strongly recommend that our standard practice for valve setting should be that the valve timing should never be in advance of the actual standard marking and if inclined to be such should be retarded so that should the standard timing not be obtainable preference should be given to it being slightly retarded.
