MCM. FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} R1/27.8.32. C. to CG. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} BA. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} x 4027 y 4553 My dear Mr. Wormald, re. PEREGRINE & BENSPORT. The former we are treating with a slightly flexible extension behind the gearbox, because of the advantages in time, side levers positions, etc. . The Bensport is having a separate gearbox, because of the advantage in foot room (pedals, and very low car,) handy and short central change speed and brake levers, less overall length of unit, and the advantage of the cross-member between the engine and gearbox. It is better for a sports car to have the clutch and gearbox more accessible for repairs, and the natural way of reducing the propeller shaft. The difference in cost is very little, but we regret the non-uniformity, although we consider the advantages worth it. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
