R.{Sir Henry Royce} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to ES. BY DONFLEX CLUTCH DISC. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}4/M27.8.32 X2200. Referring to EH/25332, and LeC. 3160., we should like to comment as follows: (1) The springs are liable to be softened at the ends. We proposed, earlier on, to introduce an asbestos insulating washer between the spring end and the hot plate, but latterly have come to the conclusion that if the spring is not in any recess, so that air can circulate round the end in contact with the pressure plate, and if the latter is thick, there is probably no need for insulation. The arrangement on LeC. 3160. we think might do experimentally, but could not be used as standard. (2) The area of the slipping surface is less than R.{Sir Henry Royce} has now proposed, our diameters being 10.75" O.D., and 7" I.D., but here again you are probably intending to try the peculiar features of this clutch, rather than make a job for standard, and therefore we expect your diameters will do for experiment. We have drawings of two proposals for the RR. clutch nearly ready to send, and will get them off as soon as possible. GRY{Shadwell Grylls} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
