PARTS FITTED TO 4. EX CAR.
Oil and Dial Gauges.
Thermometer.

All of these fittings on 4. EX Car have been made by the Foxboro' Instrument Company. They are well made and have an excellent finish. We consider they are very much neater in appearance than the gauges we are fitting to cars made at Derby. The chief reason of their neater appearance is the method of fixing the gauges on the Instrument Board. The general method used on cars built in England is three wood screws. There is no provision for anything better. Apart from the three wood screws on English gauges, there are two other screws on the rim round the gauge which fixes the cover so that on each of the English gauges, we have five screw heads exposed. The American gauges are fixed by means of a clamp. The body of the gauge is made from a gunmetal casting and into the back of this is fixed two studs. A bridge piece is used in conjunction with these studs in order to clamp the gauges to the instrument board. We consider this an infinitely better method than the one we use. The outside diameter of the Foxboro' gauge is 2.5". The dia. of the glass is 2". On the English gauge the outside dia. is 3.4" and the diameter of the glass is 2.2". The Foxboro' gauge being smaller, gives it a neater appearance. We have examined the mechanism inside the gauge and
