1021 10th June, 1941. RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG.2/RH.{R. Hollingworth} W.C. Maton Esq., The Pressed Steel Company, C O W L E Y. Oxford. Dear Mr. Maton, Thank you for your letter of June 9th, with reference to bonnet hinges. I appreciate the points raised with reference to tool marks showing on the outside of the bonnet, also the difficulty in locating the hinge centres, and as this job has to be as near as possible the last word in perfection, it will be unwise to do anything that is likely to differ from this point of view. Enclosed is a blue-print showing the section of what we think you have in mind. You will see that the lower half of the hinge is formed in the bottom panel of the bonnet. Possibly you may think that it would be better to have the hinge made separately and the two halves of the bonnet flanged inwards and the hinge spot-welded to these flanges. If you will let me know which you prefer, or any other suggestions which you have in mind, I shall be obliged, so that I can let Park Ward, who will be making the sample bonnet, have the necessary information. I note that you hope to let me have a reply to my letter of the 6th instant in the course of a few posts. Thanking you and with kind regards. Yours faithfully, | ||
