EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} being in London, we were able to discuss with him this morning the contents of your Memo.. We were also able to seek the views of JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} who, as you know, tests all new cars completed in the London area and is in continual touch with Coachbuilders and frequently consulted on the fitting of wipers and difficulties which arise in connection with them. We are all sorry to hear of your criticism of the Klaxon wiper because we believe it to be the best so far brought to our notice from the point of view of - A.{Mr Adams} reliability; B. power available; C. comparative silence; D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} neatness in fitting. Moreover, although quite a number have now been fitted, we have not previously had a complaint or even a criticism, whereas with all other wipers we have so far come across we have had many cases of failure. The latest model Lucas at present available to us is what as known as the "RW1" type and is suitable only for affixing to the top of the screen. It has a bulky motor which projects into the door space and there is a lot of gear on the front of the screen. Like other wipers so far produced by Lucas, it has given a lot of trouble and we have had to replace quite a number. For a long time Lucas have talked of producing new pattern wipers and have in fact handed us a sample of a chain driven wiper for affixing below the scuttle. The motor it is proposed to employ is the same as that used in the "RW1" which, as mentioned above, has given trouble. We do not like the chain drive and we donot like the fact that to fit the wiper it would be necessary to cut deeply into the scuttle rail, a part which we think should not be weakened. There has also been vague talk of another new Lucas wiper with gear drive from a remote motor. We saw a print OVER | ||
