Dear Sirs, For the attention of Comdr. Matravers. We thank you for your letter reference as above, and for the useful information it contained. We have decided to try another L.7 gear on a 25 HP. chassis and would be very glad if you would make up another one for us. The gear should be identical to the previous one except that it should have a cam giving 3 1/2 turns of the steering wheel from lock to lock. The particulars of the gear we require are therefore as follows :- (1) Type L.7 R.H. (2) Long length rockershaft i.e. 6 3/4" from axis of column to top end of pendulum lever. (3) Not less than 18" of inner and outer column projecting from box. (4) Cam giving 3 1/2 turns of wheel from full R.H. lock to full L.H. lock. (5) Oil filler boss removed and improvised filler fitted as on our drawing ref: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1515 attached. We will make the pendulum lever and will send it to you for the cutting of the splines. An official order for the above gear will follow very soon.
