'V' SERIES.

SCUTTLE ISOLATION. X.8500
X.4613.

Replying to your BY4/H24.3.25., we brought up the matter of standardising our scheme of scuttle isolation on the 40/50 before the C.S.C., and it was agreed that we should forward you the reports of the Sales testers on 94-AU., and GLK-9., the two cars having been treated according to our N.sch.1910. However we think we should go ahead and standardise this scheme of scuttle isolation for 'V' series for the following reasons :-

(1) We must have a scheme illustrated on the coach-work print, for whilst at present all the London cars are properly isolated, in the provinces the old method of bolting up solid is still going on in many cases.

(2) We have used a scheme of total isolation on the 40/50 unofficially in London for about 2 to 3 years now, representing some hundreds of cars, and have had no complaints. Therefore should the rubber washered bolt scheme which we are now suggesting not prove satisfactory, the only scrap we shall have made would be 4 rubber bolts and fittings per chassis.

(3) But for the past 18 months or so we have used this semi-flexible attachment of scuttle dash on the Goshawk, using 2 rubber washered bolts on either side of the top bonnet hinge, firstly to damp down undue relative motion, and secondly, to take the pull on the top of the dashboard that the radiator may sometimes cause. This scheme is favoured by R.{Sir Henry Royce} in preference to the total isolation and we therefore wish to use it.

On the chassis print should be shewn a section through one of the flexible washered bolts, with instructions as to type, etc.
