FROM AJS. 48310 AJS1/M1.7.25. Copy to - HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EAC. 7. GEARBOX. We send herewith drawing LeC. 2095., which is an alteration to the 'W' series gearbox for converting these for use on the above chassis. The alteration shewn on this drawing consists in the elimination of the locating plungers on the reverse slider and the simplification of this slider in view of this, and also the alteration in the shape of the slider end cover. This last alteration, combined with the fact that the starter motor is now on the engine, enables a larger fabric engine coupling to be used contiguous to the gearbox. The plunger spring retaining cap - (an aluminium die casting) now being secured by only one stud in place of two, has been made with a flange which engages with a square milled face on the guide forging to locate its position. These alterations cover item 'C' in our memo. AJS1/M15.6.25. As the locating plunger on the reverse is not really necessary we think that this scheme, if it effects any saving in cost, should be used on any gearboxes previous to EAC. 7., but we leave it to your discretion as to when this scheme should be brought in.
