TO RV FROM AJS. Y8310 AJS1/M29.6.25. Copy to HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EAC. 7. GEARBOX. We send herewith drawing LeC. 2092., shewing modifications to 'W' series 40/50 gearbox, for producing above. The features shewn on this drawing cover items 'D', 'H', & part of 'C', referred to in AJS1/M 15625., and are mainly the new method of making the sliding change lever shaft unit with one aluminium casting as casing to replace the composite construction used hitherto. With this particular unit we have arranged for 2 fitting bolts outside, and 2 studs and steady pin inside, to carry the unit. We have not yet had a reply to our query re. assembly of box, so are sending this drawing shewing the narrowed assembling hole. The narrowing of this hole means the re-designing of the servo drive worm wheel outboard bearing housing, a scheme for which we expect to send you in a day or two, and incidentally allows of two more rationally shaped covers in place of the large one with side extension. It should be noted however that the new design of change shaft unit allows the large cover to be withdrawn quite easily upon unscrewing the dust cap over tail bearing. AJS. | ||
