XVI-40 Mr. G.W. Hancock, c/o Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, FRANCE. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}10/KT.19.5.33. Oil Leaks from the Rear Engine Main Bearing. Since we have fitted the lightened flywheel on the Bentley we have had a certain amount of trouble with oil leaks from the rear main bearing. We found that on the black car which you ran in France with the standard heavy flywheel it is possible to build up a considerable positive pressure up in the clutch housing by revving up the engine with the car standing still. With the light flywheel we cannot build up pressure so easily and we should like to know whether you can see any signs of oil leaks from the rear main bearing on 18.G.IV. as it has the light flywheel. Naturally since the engine performance is nothing like so high as the Bentley, the trouble may not occur. ---- We note your remarks about shock damper glands.
