X5840 Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre. 20.5.33. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} From G.W.H. 18. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} IV. We have received the asbestos glands impregnated with tallow. These are being fitted right away. The glands we made were not so thick. The oil leak had just stopped after losing approx. 20 CC. - .0351 pts. The results of the new glands will be forwarded to you in due course. PISTONS A very pronounced piston knock has developed in N°3 cylinder. This came on intermittantly at first but now is consistant when the engine is idling. We have tried doping with oil but this does not move it. We shall not dismantle the engine without it becomes worse, as it cannot be heard when driving along the road. BREATHER We are getting an average of 100 miles decrease in oil consumption, by disconnecting the breather from the carburetter. The engine remains very free from oil leaks during the 500 miles run. FAN We are definate that there is no increase of noise from the fan by increasing the speed, but we are not getting any more effecient cooling. The fan is too low down, with the smaller dia. fan blades. SPRINGING We should like to try the riding of the car with smaller holes in the valves. The car rides exceedingly soft, but there is just a bit too much bouncing generally ( not pitching ) for real comfort. The holes in the valves are .066. We do not want to start messing about with these. Lesky said he would send some out when the mon came if he could obtain them, evidently he could not. CARBURETTER We have now ran sufficient mileage without the air silencer to confirm that it makes no difference to the petrol consumption. [Signature: GWH{George W.
