(3) EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}6/HB.{C. E. Harcombe}6.26. vital importance that we should appreciate what his idea of good springing really was, as it was a most difficult feature to deal with unless it was clearly understood what was required. C As it may be some long time before we are able to act or make recommendations based on the above points, and as the fact that he is satisfied with the springing of other cars is rather to our detriment, we might, in order that Mr. Summers may appreciate our keen interest in satisfying him on this point, supply him with some definitely stiffer springs than those at present fitted, which he said he would be prepared to fix on himself at his own works. (i.e. 25% stiffer type - less initial camber). We do not recommend this as being the correct thing to do, but suggest that it may please Mr. Summers by contrast with the very light springswhich he now has, and may confirm, or otherwise, whether we shall be justified in making the alterations above suggested when the Experimental Dept. are in a position to do so. D Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} also sonsiders the new steering column support should beput on, as this may alleviate the feeling of "front spring" vibrations. This was recommended previously but at that time no scheme was available. We recommend this should now be done. Mr. Summers also complained of the following:- (1) Jingling from the Autovac. This matter should receive our attention, and I suggest that one of E our present type Autovacs should be sent to replace the existing one, this trouble having been complained of and cured since Mr. Summers chassis was delivered. Unless the Experimental Dept. or the Repair Dept. have any suggestion to make otherwise, will you please take action and arrange for this to be done(if BJ. agrees). (2) Clutch stopping unsatisfactory. This seems to be quite up to present standard, but he certainly requires the clutch to stop much more quickly for his use and is dissatisfied as he is unable to obtain adjustment of this clutch action which he was able to obtain on his old 40/50 Silver Ghost. If the Experimental Dept. have any recommendations to make in regard to this matter will they please do so as quickly as ever possible. CONTINUED. | ||
