(3) Trouble has been experienced by Mr. Summers with the carburetter flooding and faulty carburation, which he said came on at times, and he said he had considerable trouble in tracing the cause. He eventually found the trouble to be due to the loose stand pipes of the jets. He has not experienced any similar trouble before, and it has only taken place since the car was last at the Works. He considers that the stand pipes had never been really tightened up.

In my opinion this is a case where the fibre washers should be replaced by soft aluminium type, which matter has been tackled by BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} in similar cases where the use of fibre washers has caused similar trouble.

I suggest the Experimental Dept. make recommendations to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} that this should be done and that the use of fibre washers should be avoided as far as ever possible.

(4) "Servo Jagger" is also a complaint with Mr. Summers. An Experimental Dept. scheme to overcome this has been approved by R.{Sir Henry Royce} and standardised. This could be put on if BJ. agrees.

We left Mr. Summers with an understanding that the matter should receive our careful consideration, and that we should write as soon as we were in a position to make some definite proposition.

He states emphatically that he is not satisfied at present, and unless the Experimental Dept. have some more definite and practicable recommendations to make, I shall be glad if they can deal with the points above mentioned, based on the experience Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} has had with this customer, and make recommendations as to what can be done as quickly as ever possible.

In the meantime, will you please notify the customer that the matter is having our best attention.

P.S.
Will BJ. please say whether he approves of this matter being attended to on the lines of paragraphs marked 'A' and 'B', and also whether, pending this being possible, we shall deal with it temporarily on the lines of paragraphs marked 'C' 'D' 'E' and 'F'.
