GRY{Shadwell Grylls} GRY{Shadwell Grylls} Levallois Sr/VA4/ET.16.10.36 Re: BENTLEY REAR AXLE. With reference to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}17/KW.7.10.36, we have very recently fitted one of the three sets of special oil seals you sent us as per your memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}16/KW.1.7.36, to chassis B.131.DK. We fitted the new oil seals at the same time as a set of strengthened type rear axle tubes. The above car will be in service again in about ten days to two weeks' time. For your information, we have, the last few months, been free from complaints of loss of oil from rear axles. Concerning our two 4 1/4 litre trials cars, chassis B.8.GA and B.60.GA, owing to a leakage of oil past the o/s oil seal, we fitted a new seal to B.8.GA when it had run a total mileage of 8873 Kms. Please refer to paragraph 6 of our memo Sr/VA10/ET.27.5.36, addressed to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Since fitting the new seal, the car has covered a further mileage of 14.127 Kms. and there has been no trouble due to oil leakage. As regards chassis B.60.GA, this car has now covered a total mileage of 22.898 Kms. and no trouble has been experienced with oil leakages past the oil seals. It was our intention to fit the special seals sent by you on cars on which trouble had developed, but as mentioned above we have, since you sent the seals, been free from the oil leakage trouble. Sr. is leaving for London next week and we are going to carry out some work on B.8.GA during his absence. We will then fit a set of the special seals. We will also fit the remaining set to B.60.GA as soon as this car is available. As you are aware, it means dismantling the axle for this work and we are at present, and have been for the last few months, very busy on repair and modification work, and also at times rather short handed.
