Trials of 40 mm. Gun in Beaufighter No. R.2061.

Gentlemen,

I have been instructed to inform you that it has been decided to install,

(a) A 40 mm. Rolls Royce gun, and
(b) A 40 mm. Vickers gun,

in Beaufighter No. R.2061 which, I understand, is at present held by you at Hucknall.

You should contact the Bristol Aeroplane Co. with regard to this installation.

It is understood that drawings are in existence for the installation of the Rolls-Royce gun, and it would be appreciated if a copy be sent to this department for information.

We will be pleased to advise you on any details of the installation in this aircraft.

The object of these trials is to test the performance of the 2 guns at high altitudes under identical conditions. Messrs. Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd. have been instructed to contact you to arrange for the installation of their gun.
