re. FRAMED INSTRUMENTS.

We thank you for your C25/C12827., re. fitting of grouped instruments to the Show cars.

R.{Sir Henry Royce} is very anxious that we should make every effort to get our design of grouped instruments satisfactory and available for the customer.

The arrangement of the patch is shewn on F75559., and N. sch. 2261 shews the layout of the instrument board.

The patch is entered from the rear of the board into a frame made to receive it, while each instrument is readily detachable from the patch. Interior illumination is effected by means of two lamps interchangeable with the tail light, and the lamps may be instantly pulled out for inspection and other purposes.

This drawing is not correct in that the A.T. speedometer should have a trip with suitable control, and the clock should be a Watford. It will be noticed that the temperature warning light is included in the patch.

N. sch. 2261. shews the arrangement of the board.

The mixture control has to be moved out to 7.500 from the centre-line of the car. This has been done on several experimental cars which have been 10,000 miles.

While we prefer the design of control illustrated this is not essential to the use of the patch of instruments, and it could be replaced by our present design.

We have asked HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to send us a group of instruments for our approval, when we will forward it to you for fitting up on a car.

We suggest that our policy might be to still have our present arrangement of instruments and board as standard, but to use our framed instruments on our Show and Trials cars, and sell the group as an extra. That is to say, that while in the former standard case the customer pays for the clock and speedometer, in the latter case he pays a small amount more, and gets our grouped arrangement. This appears to overcome the difficulties of introducing the scheme without loss to ourselves.
