X3640 Mr.G.W.Hancock, Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, FRANCE. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}4/KT. 20.6.33. We thank you for your various notes. BRAKES. The main object of the steel brake shoes was to enable you to run with the reduced clearance without running into the brake seizing up trouble which was so common to the aluminium shoes. So far we do not think you have told us anything about this. We expect you will be able to run the steel shoes with something less than 2/3 of the present standard clearance without getting into any trouble. One point where we think you may experience trouble is that if you drive on the brakes the drums may expand and the shoe be left behind. Consequently your pedal trouble may increase under hard driving conditions. We wonder whether our built up drum is the best possible design for thermal efficiency because we doubt whether the heat can get away through the bolted up joint to the side plate which might be a very valuable radiator. We are going to carry out some tests here and anything you can tell us will be most useful. We have tested out your glands since Bell came back and are putting them on production. They are better than anything we have previously had here. PLUGS. We note your observations regarding the plugs. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} | ||
