To O.{Mr Oldham} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ.6.3.35. Re. Use of thin oil (Bentley Instruction Book). Replying to C.13/C.5.3.35. The condition of the bearings on 21-C.1V. was examined and gone over and we did not consider it was in any way due to the thin oil. One would expect the bearings to look worse after 15,000 miles than after 10,000 miles. The object of recommending a thinner oil for winter is to try and retain the same oil viscosity all the year round. Under summer conditions the Standard oil will be just as thin as the winter grade oil. We see no necessity for altering the instructions sent to customers. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
