After stopping test we fitted a 2700 type front axle complete with Dunlop wire wheels and ran on with a view to testing the axle, pivots, and wheels.

After running 15 minutes the near side dumb iron broke across the forward horizontal bolt hole and lifted up the top flange tearing away the weld and breaking the metal in the other top corner, the fracture running inward toward the bolt hole in the top flange.

I propose to now fix the front axle on to the frame with tubular diagonal stays (brazed joints) which has already done 15 hours test and to run the test on this.

It is somewhat disturbing to see the pivots which we are using on 2700/2800 break in so short a time. The first one lasted 6 hrs 3 mins, and the second one 7 hrs 25 mins.
I will report if another one breaks. This time we shall be using wire wheels and these may absorb some shock.
