Re: Chassis No. GLK-58. P. Samuelson.

The driver to this owner called in and saw me on Saturday morning last, he stated that the following had happened to the above car:-

He had started the engine in the garage and omitted to turn on the petrol by means of the stop valve on the autovac tank. The engine instead of stopping when any petrol in the carburettor was exhausted continued to run very irregularly and a considerable flow of liquid petrol was emitted from the exhaust of the car. The man somewhat naturally was greatly alarmed as this took place inside his garage. He however stopped the engine and pushed it outside quickly.

He maintains that it undoubtedly was petrol that was emitted from the exhaust. He maintains equally that it was only afterwards that he realized he had not turned on the petrol and found it still turned off. He appears to have taken considerable care over re-starting his engine, probably because he thought a burst silencer might result and he injected oil above the pistons.

The car is running perfectly normally and apparently undamaged since this incident. We should be glad of your views and especially to know whether there is much chance of a direct engine suck from the induction pipe to the petrol tank if any hitch occurs in the autovac.
