To OY. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1457 X8430 X424 The Dunlop Co. have told us that there is a corporation called "Wheels Incorporated" at 835 11th. Avenue, New York whose business it is to rectify the errors in the steering of the various American cars and so reduce tyre wear. We understand that this Company is more or less subsidised by American Tyre Manufacturers to save their face when the motor companies do something stupid such as - toe-in the front wheels to prevent high speed wobbles. It would be of very great interest to us if you could obtain any information as to the sort of errors which this corporation are curing, because we ourselves definitely feel that the American Motor Industry has not been successful in overcoming high speed wobbles without spoiling the majority of their steerings. For instance, the last La{L. A. Archer} Salle which we tried in Paris had an absolutely dangerous steering, the Packard steering was unstable at high speeds, the Cadillac very heavy but still wobbled, the Stutz, the best of the lot with no self-centering or selectiveness at high speeds - I believe it will wobble later - it has a Marles type of steering gear. We enclose an advertisement of the aforementioned "Wheels Incorporated". As a result of our experience, we are not surprised that The General Motors commented favourably on the Phantom steering which they have got.
