X457 To EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/LG3.11.27. X5450 With reference to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}7/H2.11.27. Two months ago we standardised the spring loaded ball end at the front of the 20 HP. side steering tube. This provides additional friction in the system and obviates the possibilities of mal-adjustment of the joint, also of rattles occurring due to wear. We believe that every endeavour should be made to retain the lightness of the 20 HP. steering, also that joggles should not be confused with wobbles. The Repair Dept. are successfully curing cases of low speed wobbles with the present spring loaded cross steering tube. We should be interested to see a new 20 HP. chassis wobbling with a standard spring loaded cross steering tube and correct pivot leans and tyre pressures. Why should chassis develop wobbling tendencies while standing at the Coachbuilders? Are the pivot leans taken with the correct rear spring deflection?
