[Handwritten annotations at top] Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} (at Laval.) X4219 mins Noted file ES X4086 Warwick Bownly note Re. GOSHAWK II CARS. We are anxious to hear from you re the running of 6-G-II, and why the new parts were required which we sent to you per Aeroplane as requested. [Handwritten] We nudged a tram car in Avignon. It would appear from Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}'s telegram for new brushes for dynamo that you have arrived safely at Laval. We have received a report from R.{Sir Henry Royce} dealing with several points, copy of which we are sending to Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} tonight, along with a report of our own experience with dynamo brushes on 7-G-II, which we are now testing. [Handwritten] See reports We are trying as far as possible to embody all the various alterations or improvements etc. which have come from you or R.{Sir Henry Royce} on 7-G-II. I shall be glad therefore if you will keep me in touch with the latest information regarding these matters. No mention is made in regard to 6-G-II of the rattles in the drive which I was rather concerned about, and although there has been no definite complaint so far of this fault on 7-G-II, in trying this car today I was certainly able to reproduce a similar defect, although nothing like as serious as on 6-G-II. I am not however, troubling with this at present as evidently this fault does not appear to be considered serious, unless I hear from you otherwise. [Handwritten] See reports On the contrary we are rather specialising with carburation on 7-G-II, the prospects of which are now much better. As soon as we are in a position to obtain satisfactory or best possible results with the suggested improvements made, we will try and arrange for such modifications to be added or altered for 6-G-II. No mention has been made of the shackle covers for 6-G-II. Are there any comments in this direction with this job. We have a similar set fixed on 7-G-II and we are also fixing some steering joint covers, also arranging for a set to be made up so that we can send out to be fixed on 6-G-II. [Handwritten] It is quite agreeable to these if it enables us to make the best job possible & cheap. We would like to settle all such features as these, so that we can prepare the material in readiness for fixing on to a car (preferably 5-G-II after 10,000 mile test which is to be used as an Amateur test car-. At the same time we do not wish to spend any more money and time on such jobs if they are not looked upon favourably by R.{Sir Henry Royce} R.{Sir Henry Royce} complains that the springs on 6-G-II are rather stronger than required. As a matter of fact, these were the weakest we had got at the time. Can you give us a record of the CONTD. | ||
