Aluminium Timing Gear.

Herewith PL.215 showing the cast aluminium helical gear in place of the fabroil.

It will be noticed that the web is slightly sloping in order to avoid cooling strain when being cast.

I have some doubt about holding the wheel firmly on the camshaft end as the aluminium may crush under the pressure of the 4 screws.

To overcome this there is a steel plate introduced to spread the pressure.

Jenkinson will supply the specification of the material. We know he has already given it some thought.

At the beginning of 1939 I suggested a brass or aluminium camshaft wheel for this job.

Enclosed 4 copies of memo.
2 prints of PL.215.
