Trot Salt - Carburation} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/JS.{Mr Johnson's Secretary}25.4.40. TIMING GEARS. We have the following information of the timing gears from Olley in the States: "Are shipping you a cast aluminium timing gear off a Lincoln. Was round Fords yesterday with Drummond of National Broach, L.W.Mix, and two men from British Purchasing Commission. "The aluminium gears are quieter than resin-fabric gears, cost less, are cut for less money, live longer. "They are barrel-shaved on a National Broach (Red Ring) shaver. You can see the shaving marks on the teeth. "Are now on all trucks, all Lincolns, 50% of Ford passenger cars. Will shortly supplant fabric entirely. "Will make inquiries on the Morse chain. Have you watched it with a Stroboscope?" We are particularly interested in trying an aluminium gear with the minimum possible delay. Will you please discuss the matter with Talbot and tell us what material you recommend. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
