thick, so that it would be necessary to either deepen the escutcheon or alter the handle to give the necessary clearance so that there is sufficient room for the hands between them and the polished fillet. This distance should not be less than 1½" which means that referring to your blue print of the handles, the 1½" dimension will have to be 1⅞".

Lock Bolt.

I think that it has already been agreed that you would arrange for a ¾" projection for the bolt lock.

Spare Wheel Lid{A. J. Lidsey} Lock.

As shown on your drawing, this appears to be satisfactory, with the exception that as the inside of the lid{A. J. Lidsey} and the body are flush, you have made no provision for adjustment towards the outside of the body for the female portion of the lock, i.e. if in assembly the inside of the body projects slightly above the inside of the lid{A. J. Lidsey}, it would not be possible to move the female portion of the lock towards the outside of the body. To accommodate this error however, if you are altering existing locks to make them suitable for the sample jobs, we can arrange accordingly, but should you be making complete new locks, it would be advisable to provide for this adjustment. There should be at least ⅛" tolerance.

Another point that would be an advantage if you are making new locks is for the dowell to be ⅛" nearer the centre of the lid{A. J. Lidsey}, as drawn the plate carrying the dowell comes flush to the inside edge of the lid{A. J. Lidsey} and it would be advisable to allow a certain amount of tolerance at this point.

I telephoned you this afternoon as I suppose you have been told, hoping to be able to discuss these points with you, and as you were not available, I arranged with your Secretary that she would ask you to telephone me tomorrow morning.

Yours sincerely,
