Copy. ACCIDENTS WITH PETROLEUM SPIRIT DURING THE FUELLING OF TANKS OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES, 1930-33. ---------- 1930 ---------- Type of Vehicle. Nature of Accident. Place. Motor Cycle. Carburetter leaking badly on to hot exhaust. No one was smoking and lights on cycle had been extinguished. Garage. Lorry. Petrol ignited on overheated exhaust pipe almost directly below tank inlet. Petrol pump. 1931. 7 HP. Austin. Car was being filled at pump when lighting set fused and ignited the petrol. Garage. Lorry. Fire whilst filling tank with petrol - ignition caused by spark from an accumulator. The wires, which were in a worn condition, were moved. Service Station. Lorry. Fuel tank was being replenished and overflowed on to hot exhaust. Garage and contents destroyed. Garage. Morris Lorry. Fire due to spilling petrol on to hot exhaust manifold. Garage. Lorry.
