| X224. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} re Bensport Fan Mounting. Please find herewith a print of LeC.3202 showing proposed scheme for the fan and mounting. It is obvious that there are many ways in which the fan could be mounted on the Bensport owing to the wide gap that exists between the radiator and the engine, but we have put forward the method shown as being clea and simple. The drive is rigidly catered for and we do not think the overhang of the fan itself will give trouble since the speed of rotation is not high, the fan can be tested for balance and the hub is rigidly carried when the fan adjustment is clamped up. The fan belt can be readily changed by slacking off the adjustment, removing the bottom pulley and threading over the fan. The fan mounting cannot be removed except by dismantling the radiator or cylinder head, but this is not unusual. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
