EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Petrol Filler - Big Bore 20/25 HP. The petrol filling spout on the 20/25 petrol tank at the present time is made all in one piece as a casting and we believe represents a job on which some expense could be saved. Originally this filler was made up of two castings and a piece of straight tubing, and the complete casting was introduced as an economy. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} has now got made a sheet metal bend and tube suitable for this filler, made up from two pressings welded together. Actually the sample was done for a first type of Phantom 3 filler and is sent herewith for your inspection. We should be glad to know what saving, if any, would be obtained by using this in place of the cast job for both Phantom 3 and large bore 20/25. The bottom end would require a flange for attaching to the tank, and the top end would take the present filler cap with an adapter. This modification should effect also an appreciable saving in weight. It should be mentioned that the inside of this tube would have to be tinned after the welding operation by some means to prevent rusting in service. If there is any difficulty about this in connection with the seam welding we would suggest butt welding all the way to avoid the re-entrant grooves. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
