( 3 ) ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. The windscreen wipers and the defroster are very noisy. We note from the log-book that you are already aware of this. The car was sent out with no provision whatsoever for dimming the headlamps to meet with the right hand drive. The English dip and switch reflector met with no response, nor was the Lucas F.T.57 centre lamp accepted, even when deflected well downwards. 26G's It was noted when driving ahead in the Bentley that the headlamps, which are fitted with 60 watt bulbs, dazzled very badly over a mile away, and that unless the atmosphere was quite clear, so much light was reflected back from the particles in the air that visibility was impaired, and the advantage of the more powerful bulbs lost. Moreover, one is forced to dim very much sooner than is necessary with less powerful lamps. We noted from the Bentley that the F.T.57 centre lamp also dazzled badly, as we suspected from the attitude of the cars we met. We have fitted the F.T.67 centre lamp ex. 6.B.IV. wired so the dipper switch changes over from headlamps to this, and will see how we get on. --------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M.
