X457 X8450 To CWB. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rml/LG6.10.28. 66-YC CAR. With reference to CWB5/GM3.10.28. We tried this car in the condition complained of. We did not consider that the steering was abnormally spongy. The whole steering is such a composition of ancient and modern features, that it is impossible to expect it to be as good as an F.2.B. series. What we actually found was that the car had a tendency to wobble at high speeds. This being much more serious than sponginess, we put 2000 lbs. side steering tubes springs in. This we consider should prevent a wobble ever building up. As a matter of fact we do not think they make the steering any more spongy, as we were able to reduce the amount of friction in the cross steering tube.
