1256 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Mths.{Reg Matthews}16/JH. 2nd. March, 1937. The Birmingham Aluminium Casting Co.Ltd., Birmid Works, Smethwick, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr. A.P.Fenn. Dear Sirs, Many thanks for your letter of the 23rd. Feb. in which you have given the cost of Pistons & dies. With reference to your suggested visit to these Works the writer would suggest any afternoon at 2-30 p.m. to suit your convenience, providing you will let us know beforehand which day you propose calling. There is one point we would respectfully point out and which you may or may not know, and that is our own piston protrudes quite a considerable amount below the bottom of the cylinder at "bottom dead centre", the writer has therefore marked the corresponding position of the bottom of the cylinder relative to the piston at B.D.C. by the red pencil mark. Whether you think this satisfactory to your Piston in view of the amount of relief on the non-pressure sides we will leave you to decide and wait your further comments. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCELTD. | ||
