| x236 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}14/KW. 22nd January, 1936. The Light Production Co.Ltd., 60/66, Rochester Row, Westminster, LONDON, S.W.1. For the attention of Mr. Roberts. Dear Sirs, Thank you for your letter of the 17th inst. We wonder whether you would make us this experimental set of 3 1/4" pistons as a sand casting, and if so whether the cost of the equipment could not also be greatly reduced and also the time for supplying. The real point in question is that sand cast pistons will enable us to determine whether the proposed unit is a practicable proposition, but it is not worth obtaining die cast pistons until we have ascertained this point. If we come to die casting, we can reconsider the proportions of the piston, the gudgeon pin diameter, etc., and bring it into line with Mr. Brooks' recommendations. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
