Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}16/KW. 17th January, 1936. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, Experimental Department, DERBY. Dear Sirs, FOR THE ATTENTION OF MR. W.A.ROBOTHAM. We are obliged for your letter of the 15th instant addressed for the attention of our Mr. Brooks. Unfortunately, Mr. Brooks is away ill at the moment, but after investigating the position, we have had some conversation with him on the telephone, and as a result, are able to reply as follows:- We have no equipment which we could use for experimental 3 3/4" Pistons. If we have to make dies for these pistons, we should require approximately one month before we could give delivery to you. We agree with you that the present Gudgeon Pin is too small for this bore of piston, and in the event that you instruct us to proceed with the tackle, we should incorporate provision for a larger Gudgeon Pin boss, and should recommend a 1" pin being carried. For the experimental sets we should bore the boss to take the existing 3/4" pin as proposed by you. Mr. Brooks asks us to remind you that in altering the diameter without increasing the other dimensions of the piston, the very excellent proportions of the original Bentley Piston will be still further disturbed. Although for experimental purposes the proposed NATIONAL SCHEME FOR DISABLED MEN | ||
