GOSHAWK CONDENSERS.

We are trying to improve the contacts on these parts by having a piece of pres-pan on each side of the condenser for a limited extent on each side of the centre line. This results in bringing more concentrated and definite pressure on the contact than the original method where the presspan was the width of the condenser itself and was used on one side only.

Mr Brock is handing a condenser of this type to you - we would like to know whether it is a distinct improvement? In the meantime the Works are taking every care to eliminate all dust or chalk, which must have got in accidently in the condenser you shewed me during manufacture.

Personally I am of the opinion that it would be a distinct improvement to have an improved design with definite metallic continuity.

I would like Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , to also obtain a condenser from Mr Brock made in the improved manner and check whether the life of the contacts is increased.

In regard to EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 's remarks about condensers delivered, we can do nothing in this connection until we are certain that we have made a definite improvement. When we are satisfied on this point we will give the question of cars delivered further consideration.
