N Sch 978 FRONT AXLE STEERING TUBE SUFFICIENT FRONT SPRINGS AT A SUGGESTED METHOD OF LOCKING THE WHEELS TO THE STUB AXLES IS TO REMOVE THE INNER BALL BEARING AND REPLACE BY A SLEEVE PINNED AND BRAZED TO STANDARD INNER HUB. THE STUB AXLE HAS WIDE SLOTS CUT IN THE FLANGE PART THAT NOW CARRIES THE DUST SHIELD, AND JAWS FROM THE SLEEVE ENGAGE THESE. CHASSIS SUITABLY ANCHORED IN FRONT OR BEHIND PIT PULLEYS IN PIT WIRE WHEELS WITHOUT TYRES ARE SHEWN LOCKED TO THE STUB AXLES. THE WIRE ROPE PASSING ROUND THE RIM. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE ROPE SHOULD COME OFF THE WHEEL AT A POINT CORRESPONDING TO THAT OF THE TYRE CONTACT WITH THE GROUND, OTHERWISE AN UNFAIR LOAD WILL BE PUT ON THE CROSS STEERING TUBE AND LEVERS.
