| X215. To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re Bensport J.1. Crankshaft. Please receive herewith: LeC.3284 - showing the complete design of the crankshaft, bearings and bearing caps, the crankpins being 2" diameter, and the journals 2.250, the shaft being fitted with balance weights which are known as the 6/8 scheme. It will be noted that the oil feed through the bearing caps is different from the 20/25, it being now made similar to our present practice, as we think the bearing bush is much better supported in the cap. At the forward end the spring drive and slipper flywheel is like the 20/25, but we intend to send you very shortly a design for a strengthened slipper disc. At the rear end of the shaft the clutch spigot and end location of the clutch shaft may not be final, and we are discussing various schemes with VW. who are dealing with this part of the design.
