Dear Dr. Morrison,

VALVE OVER-LAP.

I have got some figures relative to your remarks on the position in which the exhaust valve opens, and I enclose this herewith in the form of a report.

It may be that the fact that we put all our exhaust into one pipe will mask the bad effects of an early closing exhaust valve. At any rate, it appears that with our present arrangement open exhaust running gives a true figure of merit for the best timing of the engine.

We will repeat the experiments with our exhaust ports divided into two blocks of 3.

Yours sincerely,
