D E R B Y . 25th MAY 1934. REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/SMTH.17./K.W., EXPTL. DEPARTMENT. Dear Sirs, VALVE SPRINGS. We thank you for your letter of the 24th instant. We have this Specification from the Motor Manufacturers of America, and have in fact used steels in all important points agreeing with this analysis. NO. I. STEEL. It is not so much in favour at the moment owing to the difficulties with segregation, and we think you have had some experience on this, and the difficulties to make it absolutely sure that there is no segregation in the material. NO. 2 STEEL. No doubt this is the reason that the Carbon Dteel to NO. 2 analysis is being used but in this case we should miss that the carbon contents are lower than it ought to be, and is lower than we should use for high class valve springs. Yours faithfully, GEO. SALTER & CO. LTD. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Bache Managing Director. | ||
