-2- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.17/KW. 24.5.34. The carbon steel is used for springs of 1/8" dia. and upward and the chrome vanadium for sizes less than this. We have no information regarding the advantages which the makers claim for using the plain steel for the larger diameter springs, and it occurs to us that they can be due only to this steel being easier to manufacture than the other and, possibly, cheaper.
