X3436 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/OB24-1-21. ---------------- X.3436 RE SWAN NECK OF EXHAUST. 40/50 Chassis We are repeatedly informed by Sales that the swan neck of the exhaust stands in the neighbourhood of 1 1/2" above the top of the frame, in which position it seriously interferes with the depth of the rear seats and has in several cases been the cause of fire. We understand that according to drawings this pipe should not project more than 3/4" above the top of the frame, and that for some reason or other (possibly to clear the transverse stay) this silencer pipe is caused to be raised. We would be glad if you could arrange that before cars leave the works that this clearance is examined, and it is suggested that a limiting projection of .375 be the maximum allowed. We have discussed this matter with your Mr Shelton, who has gone into this matter and arrived with us, at this conclusion.
