R.R. 2350 (10 T.) (S.H. 988. 22/2/21.) Bm. 59887G. X3436 FR Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c.c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c.c. to Ds. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/T2/H24.5.21. Re Popping In Silencer. We are having quite a number of complaints of popping in silencer, even with the throttle closed. We have of course pointed out to customers and to inspectors who are forwarding these complaints that they should make sure the throttle controls are properly adjusted, and not preventing the throttle from closing, also to make sure that the throttle diaphragm is a correct fit on the low speed jet tube. There is no doubt, however, that some cars do occasionally pop in the silencer, even when the above features are correct. In view of the number of complaints, we are compelled to ask you to go into the matter, and let us know if there are any other points which we can put forward in replying to customers or to our inspecting engineers.
