4. S. S. PHANTOM

4. Detonations on pick up. rather bad on 19 EX for distance run

5. Clutch nice to actuate, but inclined to slip, not reliable enough to get out of ruts or ditches. If slips slightly continues to slip. Consider stronger springs required.

6. Gear Box. Very good gears and S.S. Also no noticeable rattle from S.S. on gears when declutched, or "bubble" etc.

7. Brakes. Squeak from "Servo" and brakes groan on pull up. Quite effective. Mechanism 'sogs' when released. Exhaust petrol fumes get into body - worse on retard.

8. Carburation - inclined weak pick-up - affected by water temperature. Low speed jet on strong side. Very good for slow running and no Autovac effect.

9. Springing - generally very good. Inclined to sway and heave over too much at corners - signs rear wheels not holding road.
22-EX better - more damping.
Upholstery of seats very good-soft and well damped.
Front of car stable.
Body rattles bad - "dithers" bad over rough roads and thought tyres too hard.

10. Exhaust. O.K. for general quietness. Cracks badly when cooling down (like Silver Ghost - O.K. Phantom) Signs of spit on retard unless throttle definitely closed.
