way of over-coming the difficulty in filling up.

OY. has pointed out in his memo. that he did not consider the filter inlet on the petrol tank is essential. They have found so many R.R. cars in which the inlet filter has corroded away and they never experience any trouble as longas the outlet filter is intact.

Time taken to fill up 18-gallon Tank.

Condition.
Filling up by means of a pump but regulating the flow so that max: quantity of petrol is passing into the tank without running over.
Filling up by means of a pump at a constant rate to avoid petrol being spilt.
As No.2 but with 5 5/16" holes drilled.

Copper gauze.
2 mins. 15 secs.
3.25 mins.
1 min. 50 secs.

Monel metal gauze.
3 mins. 37 secs. As tank fills up flow of petrol must be reduced.
5 mins. 15 secs.
1 min. 50 secs.
