Re Shrunk Steel Sleeve on 'Phantom' Cylinder. (Ex Chassis No.57-SC. - Hough). Ref. BY23/H.13.1.27. We do not consider the position of this experiment is such that it would be suitable to put the block of Cylinders on a customer's car, even after it has been tested thereon. We are of the opinion that the change in design which this alteration means is of sufficient importance to be properly tested and approved by the Experimental Department before it is placed on customers' cars. It may be pregnant with booby traps, or it may not, but it is such a departure from standard that we cannot send it out without the approval of the Experimental Dept. It would be advisable also before experiments were conducted if Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} would inform us whether in his opinion the stiffened cylinder projection is doing all that is claimed. We realise it will be a saving of scrap if the sleeve can be used safely. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} | ||
