satisfactory slow speed performance, on the top of which they have the further advantage that the sleeves may be utilised so as to give their biggest flux effect in the retarded position, and to reduce the maximum statical flux through the armature by a very appreciable amount in the advanced position, for which a large flux is not required. Apparently this possibility has not been explored to its fullest extent.

The high speed performance of the magneto is certainly not all that is to be desired - in fact it does not meet our Specification as other magnetos do in this respect - and though we have not actually heard of any dissatisfaction on the chassis due to this cause (it must be remembered that there is nearly always a battery ignition running in parallel) nevertheless it would appear from the results on the bench that it may be responsible in certain circumstances for some loss of performance.

In regard to the timing of the distributor the notes concerning this we think will be found self-explanatory, and all the necessary dimensions are given for a distributor of the same dia. as their present dia. , which distributor admits of longer cams giving a make of 100° consistently with a range of advance of 61°, and which yet is no larger than their standard distributor of 2.40" dia.

For comparison with the timing diagram of the magneto and distributor showing the timing believed to be approximately
