Experimental Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}2/KT: August 28th 1933. C.R.Acton Esq, Fern Cottage, Clay Hill, Lyndhurst, Hants. Dear Sir, Re. Patent Automatic Jack and Turntable. Thank you for your letter of the 12th inst. We must apologise for not having replied before, but we have been closed down for our annual holiday. We have examined the blue print which shows the construction of your four wheel jacking system. The scheme of operation is extremely ingenious, but we do not think it can be applied to our cars usefully. In the first place the weight of our cars together with the height through which they have to be lifted before the wheels leave the ground would necessitate a very large and heavy jacking unit, and even then its sphere of usefulness appears to be entirely confined to use on a perfectly level spot, such as a garage; for example one could not use it with safety to change a wheel when on a hill. We are returning herewith your blueprint, thanking you for letting us have the opportunity to examine the scheme. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
