some of the patents bearing on cylinder construction, the result of which was to bring to light specifications which materially affected the novelty of our invention. To make you clear on the prior art in this direction, we are enclosing copies of patent specifications Nos. 224539, 373839, 379968, 351726, from perusal of which we think you will agree that this arrangement had been well covered prior to our application.

In view of this we therefore permitted our application to lapse, as there did not seem to be sufficient novelty to warrant continuing with the complete specification.

We think 224539, dated November 6th, 1924, covers the case fairly well.

We have not attempted to upset the validity of the Brico claim, but I do not think they have sufficient grounds for patent, in view of the evidence as contained in the patent specifications included herewith. As the specifications referred to are the master copies in our file, perhaps you would be good enough to return these to me after perusal.

Yours faithfully,

W. Pilkington

(V.{VIENNA} W. Pilkington).
