instead of this screw being held only by Bakelite threads which latter is not considered a sufficiently good mechanical job.

(5) A Ross Courtney terminal will be used on the outer end of the earth connection, and the other end of this connection shall be finally secured with solder to the rocker. Steps will be taken to prevent the solder from running up the strands of the flexible conductor as otherwise breakage of the conductor will result due to the stiffening up effect and the movement of the rocker.

(6) The terminal nuts securing the external connections are to be of bakelite with metal inserts similar to the pattern inspected, which we have fitted on to the pumps erected here. As Messrs. Rolls-Royce have moulds for this part already in existence it is proposed that some arrangement should be made for supplying these terminal nuts to S.U.

(7) With regard to the question of wax impregnation of the coil, we propose to drop this in view of the coil wire being enamel insulated.

(8) It is agreed that the outward stop for the rocker shall be formed by throwing a brass tongue down from the centre of the rocker to stop on the bottom edge of the hole in the moulding instead of against the overhanging flap of the bakelite base plate. The velocity of the part which hits the moulding will then be less and the moulding will take up the blow in a much more rigid part of its structure. It is also considered that the overhanging flap might be cut away entirely.
An alternative method for obtaining greater silence of operation that we have proposed is to use a curved stirrup plate behind the contacts blade and secured with the same screw which fixes the contact blade, arranged in such a manner that the blade will wrap round it and stop against the end, and will act as a cushioned stop for the rocker. It is intended that this scheme should be the subject of experiment.
